More like Beasts of No Nominations

The 2016 Oscar nominations were announced early Thursday morning in El Lay, and while the usual suspects were all on the list, there was one thing we couldn’t help but notice was missing…

Literally all 20 of the acting nominees are white — albeit not all American or British — but still, for an era where diversity is supposed to be at an all-time high, leaving off celebs like Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba, and Oscar Isaac seems almost criminal!

Vote: Which Oscar Reject Do You Think Deserves Best Picture?

Straight Outta Compton only received a single nod for Best Original Screenplay… which was written by four white people. Sorry, Jason Mitchell.

Similarly, Creed managed to get Sylvester Stallone some Academy love for playing Rocky for the 18th time, but Michael, Tessa Thompson, and director Ryan Coogler were completely overlooked!

Another one of the more shocking omissions comes from Concussion, which many critics praised as Will Smith‘s best acting of his career, yet he and costar Gugu Mbatha-Raw failed to get any recognition for their work.

Other high-profile examples include Benicio del Toro for Sicario, Mya Taylor for Tangerine, Samuel L. Jackson for The Hateful Eight, and Chiwetel Ejiofor for either Z for Zachariah, The Martian, or Secret in Their Eyes.

Basically, the Oscars just took one gigantic step backwards when it comes to equality… and we’re not sure how they’re going to get out of this one.
