Is that the sound of the “Imperial March” we hear in the distance? Because now we know Darth Vader will indeed be returning in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The news comes via Entertainment Weekly, which is running with a headline that says “Darth Vader is back!” on the cover of its latest issue. And that’s not the only news from the set of the upcoming movie
Forest Whitaker’s Character Revealed
Up to now we didn’t know much about Forest Whitaker’s role in the new movie. It seems he’s playing a rebel fighter named Saw Gerrera, a character from the Clone Wars TV show. He’s on the extreme side of things, and some of the other Rebels are wary of his questionable morals and guerrilla tactics.
“The Antithesis of C-3PO”
K-250 (Kaytoo for short) is a no-nonsense droid Rebel voiced by Alan Tudyk. “Kaytoo is a little bit like Chewbacca’s personality in a droid’s body,” Director Gareth Edwards says. “He doesn’t give a s— about what you think. He doesn’t fully check himself before he says things and does things. He just speaks the truth.”
The Galactic Odd Couple
Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) and Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) are two very close friends fighting for the Rebels. Chirrut is blind, but has found a way to tap into the Force to overcome it. He’s not a Jedi, but he holds them in very high regard. Baze on the other hand would prefer to have a good blaster.
The Hero & Her Handler
Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso, a young woman with a checkered past who’s given the option to redeem her life by fighting for the Rebellion. Keeping her in check will be Captain Cassian Andor, who can be just as tough as her when he likes.
The magazine also says Mads Mikkelson will play Jyn Erso’s estranged father, and that he’s created some kind of massive doomsday weapon, and he doesn’t feel too proud of it. We’re guessing that’ll be pretty key as Jyn tracks down the plans for the Death Star.
