Did You Spot Johnny Depp's 'Cameo' in 'The Walking Dead' Last Night?
AMC

[Spoilers ahead!]

Last night, fans of The Walking Dead experienced arguably one of the best and most intense episodes of the season. But amidst all the blood, murder, and zombie beheadings was one very interesting moment.

In one scene in “Not Tomorrow Yet”, Andy, Jesus, and Rick must decide which of three decapitated walker heads looks the most like Gregory in order to trick Negan’s Saviors into thinking they had killed the Hilltop leader. Hmmm, the head on the far right sure looks awfully familiar, now doesn’t it?

Johnny Depp, is that really you?

According to the episode’s director and special effect guru, Greg Nicotero, the third cast was taken from Captain Jack Sparrow himself. As Nicotero (who frequently cameos as a walker himself) explained to Entertainment Weekly:

“One of the other heads, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble if I say this, was Johnny Depp. I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp’s head as a basis just for a clay sculpt. I can’t remember who the third one is, but I’m in good company. Norman [Reedus] kept saying he wanted the heads when we were done shooting. I said we’ve got to wait until the picture is logged.”

And that, folks, is how Johnny Depp became part of TWD canon.
