Gun control debates have sparked once again after Wednesday’s devastating shooting of two journalists during a live television interview.
On Thursday, the former Apprentice host explained he was opposed to creating stricter gun laws in the U.S., but would rather address mental health issues to prevent more shootings.
“This isn’t a gun problem, this is a mental problem. It’s not a question of the laws, it’s really the people.”
The Donald said that mental illness is “a massive problem” in the states. While he didn’t offer any specific solutions, the candidate suggested that more resources should be used to address mental health, adding:
“In the old days they had mental institutions for people like this because he was really, definitely borderline and definitely would have been and should have been institutionalized. At some point somebody should have seen that, I mean the people close to him should have seen it.”
The 69-year-old made it clear that he believed that gun control was not the proper solution, saying he is “a very strong Second Amendment person.”
Of course someone who goes on a shooting spree has mental health problems — but why does that mean we shouldn’t we have stricter limits to make sure people like that can’t get their hands on guns??
What do you think about Trump’s stance?
