'Game of Thrones' Announces Season 7 Return Date After Huge Marketing Fail
HBO

Game of Thrones fans don’t have to wait any longer to discover when the show’s new season will return (July 16), but they did have to wait for the announcement for a while today.

In a silly viral marketing gimmick, HBO tried to unveil the premiere date for season seven via a melting block of ice on Facebook Live. Fans were asked to comment “Fire” as a torch heated it down, but the process wasn’t quick, leading to some exasperated fan comments.

Then the video stopped.

Yup, the thing wouldn’t play and, after a hour of stops and starts (and plenty of angry fan tweets), HBO finally revealed the date.

This proves once again that marketing people are the demons of the world. But hey, at least we know when THRONES is back. Check out the new poster below as well. It’s full of fire and ice and little else.
