Green Day has never been a band that shies away from making political statements, and it doesn’t look like they’re going to stop anytime soon.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the band released a lyric video for their song “Troubled Times,” off last year’s Revolution Radio. The video contains striking images of the Civil Rights movement, the suffragette movement, and, of course, Donald Trump. The President-elect is depicted holding nuclear weapons with his trademark red Make America Great Again hat.
“Today we celebrate love and compassion more than ever,” lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement that accompanied the lyric video release.
During last November’s American Music Awards, Green Day chanted “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” during a performance. So it’s safe to say the band won’t be playing at Trump’s inauguration, although Toby Keith and 3 Doors Down will be.
