Leave it to the most successful author of all time to craft such a backhanded defense of Donald Trump!
At the 2016 PEN Literary Awards Gala in New York on Monday, humanitarian award recipient J.K. Rowling gave a speech in which she actually defended the man she once compared to Voldemort!
Of course, the Harry Potter author was really defending freedom of speech in general — and pretty much bashing “bigot” Donald.
In reference to the petition to keep the Republican Presidential candidate from visiting the U.K., she said:
“Now, I find almost everything that Mr. Trump says objectionable. I consider him offensive and bigoted. But he has my full support to come to my country and be offensive and bigoted there. His freedom to speak protects my freedom to call him a bigot.”
J.K. made the crucial point that we can’t unilaterally silence those we disagree with because then we would have:
“…no moral grounds on which to argue that those offended by feminism or the right for transgender rights or universal suffrage should not oppress campaigners for those causes.”
The Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them screenwriter continued:
“If you seek the removal of freedoms from an opponent simply on the grounds that they have offended you, you have crossed a line to stand along tyrants who imprison, torture and kill on exactly the same justification.”
It’s an important stand to take, all the more difficult when people like Trump say such horrible things.
But we stand with J.K., on the side of freedom of speech. Even for tiny-handed, orange-haired jerks.

What do YOU think of Rowling’s words??
