Wherever Lorelai Gilmore leads, Lauren Graham will follow.
Most of us Gilmore Girls fanatics cannot wait till the Netflix revival finally drops, but until then we’re just taking in anything the cast is willing to give us. Lauren Graham, a.k.a Lorelai Gilmore, recently discussed how returning to Stars Hollow was a very emotional and rewarding experience for her. The incredible opportunity came almost 10 years after the series went off air and Graham has a lot to share about what it was like to step back into Lorelai’s shoes.
“I relished it, and I’m ruined for life because there’s no more perfect fit I feel like for me than that writing and that show,” she said. “I’m so glad I got to do it again. I just can’t even explain it. It was everything I wanted it to be and more.”
And what about working with Alexis Bledel? Although Bledel plays Graham’s on-screen daughter, Rory Gilmore, she’s a real-life mom now which makes Graham a faux-grandma.
“Just like the show, our dynamic has always been more like friends than mother and daughter,” said Graham. “We are closer in age than, like, the kids who played my kids on Parenthood!”
Graham also expressed her respect for Bledel’s ability to balance both her personal and professional life, considering the hard and long hours they put into filming the Netflix revival. “We were both kind of in different places then, and we’re both more settled down now. So that was kind of cool, to reconnect,” Graham stated.
It’s safe to say that the experience was a gratifying one for Graham. Many of the things she hoped would be incorporated into the revival ended up materializing. Graham also explained that the project was in the works for a long time because things don’t always work in a linear fashion in Hollywood. Still, it all ended up working out in the end, and we couldn’t be happier.
“I feel the excitement,” Graham added. “I felt it while we were shooting. I’ve never had an experience has wonderful and intense. It was like getting to do college all over again, or something, when you really know what it has to offer. To return to this. I was ready.”
Okay, so when is the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life gonna air? We need to know ASAP.
