Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life ended with a shocking cliffhanger years in the making. When Rory uttered those momentous words – “Mom? I’m pregnant” — everything changed. But it wasn’t enough to keep Melissa McCarthy around.
In a new interview with ET, McCarthy said she (sad day) had no intention of returning to the reboot as Lorelai’s BFF chef Sookie St. James.
“No [I wouldn’t come back as Sookie],” she told the site, “but I would come back as Lorelai. And that is a challenge to Lauren Graham.”
Graham plays Lorelai on the show.
It’s unclear if the show will be renewed for a second season, though that ending would suggest there’s much more of the story to be told. In late December 2016, the official Netflix account posted a very suspicious tweet
“Where’s an eighth grade science fair when you need one? #GilmoreGirls,” the tweet read alongside a photo of an eighth grade science fair experiment featuring Logan, Paul, and “A guy dressed in a Wookiee costume.”
If this photo turns out to be more than just a cruel tease, we should expect to see Rory’s as yet unborn child as a middle schooler in Season 2.
No Sookie though, which is unfortunate. After all, we got a precious few minutes with her in A Year in the Life, and there really wasn’t time for closure.
