During The Defenders panel at Comic-Con 2017, the legendary Sigourney Weaver dished on the role she couldn’t refuse.
“When we first started talking about who Alexandra would be,” explained head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, “we all let out a collective ‘squee’ because we just though it was the best idea ever. She’s just a class act all the way, top to bottom.”
When she got the call and learned about the part, Weaver said, she knew it should be her next project. After sealing the deal, Loeb introduced her to the rest of the cast for the first time at NYC Comic-Con.
“By then, it was too late, they were stuck with me because I was already a huge fan of Daredevil and Jessica Jones,” she shared. “They offered me a part I couldn’t refuse. Alexandra is an interesting woman who has a lot of dealings with Elodie [Yung, who plays Elektra]. Their relationship is the most unusual and interesting I’ve ever had — on screen or off.”
In the series pilot, aired during The Defenders panel, we meet Weaver’s Alexandra at a luxe doctor’s office where she’s told she has months (if not weeks) to live. It’s then that she puts the cogs of a grand plan in motion, laying ruin to the city of New York, establishing a bizarre relationship with Yung’s Elektra, and forcing Defenders Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) to unite for the greater good.
The Defenders hits Netflix August 18, 2017.
