We figured this nostalgic live-action feature throwing back to the classic animated version might do pretty well… but maybe not THIS well!

The Jungle Book hit theaters this weekend and it’s been nearly all of what anybody wanted to see, even going so far as to nearly set a box office record for openers in April in the process!!

The Disney flick took in a whopping $106.3 million this weekend, making it the number two April opener EVER behind Furious 7, and the 4,028 theaters that screened the flick must have been VERY happy with the results!!

Behind the classic Disney movie, Barbershop: The Next Cut came in second place for the weekend — the new release didn’t do nearly the amount of traffic that The Jungle Book did, but a shade over $20 million is nothing to scoff at, either!

Melissa McCarthy‘s flick The Boss rounded out the top three with $10 million over the weekend and a $40.3 million total across its first two weeks, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice coming in fourth with a $9.2 million haul over the weekend.

Disappointingly, Criminal — a new release that showed in nearly 3,000 theaters this weekend, drew just $5.8 million. Yikes…

What do U think of the box office totals?!
