Can you believe this?!
It’s bad enough that just over a week ago a girl was sent home from school for breaking a school’s dress code by showing too much collarbone, but this is ABSURD!
Just recently a little girl was reportedly sent home with a note from her school for violating their dress code by carrying a Wonder Woman lunch box.
A user on reddit posted this picture of a little girl’s lunchbox (above) along with the letter that was sent home explaining their reasoning.
The letter said:
“We noticed that Laura has a Wonder Woman lunchbox that features a super hero image. In keeping with the dress code of the school, we must ask she not bring this to school.
The dress code we have established requests that the children not bring violent images into the building in any fashion – on their clothing (including shoes and socks), backpacks and lunchboxes.
We have defined ‘violent characters’ as those who solve problems using violence. Super heroes certainly fall into that category.”
We could perhaps understand the school’s reasoning if Wonder Woman was performing an act of violence or MAYBE even that her costume was perhaps too revealing, but the superhero is pretty much just standing there with her lasso of truth in hand!
Superheros may often use violence when other people’s lives are in danger — but to ban all images of the iconic characters seems ABSOLUTELY ridiculous!
On top of that, Wonder Woman is one of the few mainstream female superheroes who represents all types of girl power! As the lunchbox says:
“As lovely as Aphrodite. As wise as Athena!”
By the school’s definition of “violent characters,” they would also have to include all the the looney tunes characters, SEVERAL Disney characters as well, and of course the biggest superhero of them all that stands for “truth and justice,” Superman!
We really hope this school changes its policy as heroes like this shouldn’t be banned but celebrated for their morals and standing up for what’s right.
